The Oscar Pistorious murder case has drawn a lot of media attention. What baffled me the most was when the ANC Women’s league joined some women’s rights advocacy group outside the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in protest against paralympic gold medalist Oscar Pistorious and calling for “No bail” in his murder trial.

The Women’s minister Lulu Xingwana was one of those that showed up and she was quoted as saying
“We want him to be treated like other criminals that have been charged with murder or abuse of women. She went on to say; “those found guilty of such crimes should be punished with the “stiffest sentences”

I found this surprising because I recalled when our president was on trial for rape, the same ANC Women’s league was surprisingly very supportive of the president during his trial and now that it is someone who isn’t in the ANC, suddenly they give a damn about women.

I wish everyone would just let the law take its course, take into consideration the Sub Judice rule ( meaning that a particular case or matter is under trial or being considered by a judge or court.)
Meaning they should treat Oscar Pistorious as innocent until proven guilty, as our constitution says.
