Watch out Madame Tussauds, here comes Lungelo Wax Museum, yes South Africa is getting it’s first wax museum, the very first in Africa.
Located at the Bat Centre in Durban, Lungelo Wax Museum is the brain child of Lungelo Gumede, a young man who grew up in Clermont, a township just outside of Durban, whose love for art began while he was still in high school and his fascination with wax figure sculptures began when he visited Madame Tussauds in the United States of America.
The museum will officially launch at the end of the year.
Currently the public can view life-size wax figures of King Goodwill Zwelithini, former eThekwini mayor Obed Mlaba and others. Gumede says after the launch he plans to showcase a new statue every month.
