Today suspended ANC Youth League President Julius Malema attended the Twelve Apostles Church in Christ in Butterworth, to celebrate Easter and to commemorate the life of Solomon Mahlangu who was an Umkhonto We Sizwe soldier and killed during the apartheid years. The official statement on his visit to the church came on Thursday (yesterday) from ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu. Malema would be visiting the church in his capacity as league president according to Shivambu’s statement, but this visit would be against the wishes of the ANC following the decision that was made on Wednesday to gag and suspend Malema temporarily from the party, meaning he cannot exercise any duty as an ANC member. When Malema’s visit to church was announced on the news I was left scratching my head, trying to figure out how is this news and why should we even care, I mean something newsworthy would have been something along the lines of: JULIUS MALEMA GETS STRUCK BY LIGHTENING AS HE ENTERS CHURCH, just like in the movies when someone evil sets foot in a holy place.
